My artistic journey has taken me to various fields beyond my profession as Fashion Design Director in New York City. I received several design awards when I attended Parsons School of Design. I often direct design and graphic teams to create collections of apparel and accessories with high-tech computer system.
As I witness our lives in such a fast paced world; painting, sketching or any handcrafted work becomes a dying art. I enjoy the feel of picking up a Venus#4B pencil; a piece of charcoal stick, or a paint brush in my hand to create artwork.
Mixed medium is also my passion. I like to add hand-embroidery,novelty stitches, beadwork, or combining different textures of paper or fabrics to my unique fashion collage. With the frequent requests of my artwork, and paintings. I have created 'LeLu Design LLC'-- a studio merges Fine Art and Fashion.There is also a limited edition of silk screen clothing line which reflects these images on my personal website (ww.EllenYLau.com) as well as Cozy Petal (www.CozyPetal.com)
Travels inspire me tremendously, learning from various cultures often gives me a fresh take to create new art --from the exotic Ikat patterns of Bali, to the rich and spicy color palette of Morocco, and Mexico. I also love to spot interesting composition of landscape or buildings through my camera lense. There are so much to see and learn around the globe, which helps me to view my own artwork at different angle constantly.
