four am
my mind a minefield every thoughtflicker setting off shockwaves of guilt over everything and nothing
what i've done what i failed to do what i did and undid the barrenness of what is left to choose
wrong moves on a chessboard whose only constancy is inconstancy i couldn't breathe the futility of remorse piled on guilt stones on the chest of a witch being pressed
so i ran a fugitive in first light to the waterfall to lose myself in the thunder of the ungovernable and drown the choir of blame
standing on the ledge being baptized in the holy water of nature pushed me into another hell
thoughts of sex and death chased each other's tails describing a perfect circle of surrender to that which is greater than the self
i have none of the one only the certainty of the other my consolation the certainty will be the end of nights like this ~ copyright 2016 RC deWinter
A view of a golden summer dawn at the one of the Minneopa Creek waterfalls near Mankato, Minnesota. The word Minneopa comes from the Dakota language and is interpreted to mean water falling twice.
